Entryway & Sidelight Stained Glass

As a homeowner and someone who enjoys entertaining guests, you want your entryway to be warm and inviting. A front entrance that is neglected or lacking in lighting or ambiance can create an undesirable impression. However, an entryway that looks well maintained and is tastefully decorated can have a powerful effect and gain the admiration of visitors. With entryway stained glass, you can impress your neighbors and visitors and create a beautiful look for the inside and outside of your home.

Entryway stained glass looks beautiful from both the curb as it shines in the sun and also from the inside of your home as you look outward on the world. Often composed of small windows, sidelights, and transoms, stained glass entryways are full of character, and allow the unique personality of a home and homeowner to shine. Not only do stained glass entrances look visually appealing, but they also are functional too due to their ability to soften light and create privacy for the front of your home.

Transom Stained & Leaded Glass

Sometimes located above an entrance or on their own, transoms are windows that are transfixed in the uppermost portion of a wall. Many homes include transoms because they provide diversity and also draw sunlight into spaces that are otherwise dimly lit. However, in terms of aesthetics, these windows provide little aid as the view they provide is usually nothing more than a patch of sky or a neighboring wall. Adding stained glass to transom windows is a great way to enhance their aesthetic appeal and overall appearance of your home.

Scottish Stained Glass has the ability to create stained glass windows of any shape and size. For example, if you have transoms in your home that are in a circular or octagon shape, we can create beautiful custom stained glass inserts for the replacement of flat glass. Transoms benefit greatly from the addition of stained glass because it draws the eye upward and brings attention to the full height of a room.

Bedroom, Basement & Hallway Stained Glass

Due to their smaller size and unique location, hallways and basements often need ample amounts of natural light. Without some sort of sunlight, these rooms can be too dim to be enjoyable, and may feel crowded or uncomfortable. Windows serve an important purpose in these rooms and closing them off with blinds or curtains would have an undesirable effect as these methods block out the sun.

Stained glass provides an alternative to traditional window coverings for creating privacy for these areas of you home. With a stained glass window, you can feel free to use your basement as an extra room for guests or as an entertainment area. Similarly, bedroom windows, whether they’re small transoms or large windows, can also benefit from the inclusion of stained glass. Floral designs and beveled stained glass windows are particularly popular for this purpose and create a very glamorous look.

Kitchen, Cabinet & Wine Cellar Stained Glass

Integrating stained glass into various parts of your kitchen can create a very sophisticated, high end look for your home. In kitchen and dining areas alike, stained glass can be used for a variety of purposes. You can try adding prairie style lights over your dining room table or breakfast counter area to add a pop of color. Or try replacing the wood doors on your kitchen cabinets to open up the room and add diversity to your kitchen design.

If your home has a wine cellar, you could also consider adding stained glass windows or doors to its entrance. In the past, we have created custom grapevine designs and landscapes for wine cellars belonging to our Dallas clients. Adding stained glass can not only create a refined look for your wine cellar, but also conceal it from small children and visitors.

Stained Glass for Dallas Churches & Temples

Ever since the Middle Ages when architects began incorporating stained glass into Europe’s Roman Gothic style cathedrals, stained glass windows have become a common feature in religious buildings around the world. Because of its ability to add light, privacy, and color, stained glass offers both practical and aesthetic benefits for churches. In ancient times, it was used as a way to educate the illiterate population about the methodologies and teachings of religion. Today, while its purpose is quite different, is still equally as prominent. Stained glass alludes to the ideals and beliefs that religious groups celebrate and offers a unique way to share messages of love and devotion to the world.

At Scottish Stained Glass, we specialize in creating religious stained glass designs and have partnered with many Dallas area churches on both new construction and remodel projects. Some of the most common requests we receive include prayer room, chapel, and sanctuary stained glass, though we have created stained glass panels for the inclusion of altar furniture, portraits, and decorative features like lights and signs. Our team of designers will work with you to find a way to incorporate your stained glass into your church’s architecture in a manner that looks natural and also allows it to be easily seen by your congregation and visitors.

Dallas Commercial Stained Glass

In addition to residential properties, Scottish Stained Glass also provides custom stained glass manufacture for commercial projects located in the Dallas metro area. We are able to handle commercial jobs of any size, ranging from small stained glass signs to large installations with multiple panels of glass such as stained glass ceilings and domes.

Many of our clients find that stained glass is highly beneficial for their business due to its alluring appearance. Often, hotel owners and restaurant owners will highlight their stained glass as a way to attract tourists and make their building appear like a desirable place to host large gatherings such as weddings and anniversary celebrations. However, stained glass can also be a great way to complete a vintage look for a bar, office, or retail store.

In-Home Consultations for Dallas Stained Glass Clients

At Scottish Stained Glass, we hold our customers satisfaction to the highest priority. Above all, we want you to feel satisfied with your experience. In order to serve you in the best way possible, we feel that it’s important to start your project with an in-depth consultation. We make this part of the process convenient for you and are willing to come visit you in person at your home, so you don’t have to travel to our office. Once there, we’ll go over any questions you have and initiate the design process to get started.

Our Process

Once we receive your approval on design work, we’ll get started with the construction of your stained glass. First, we take the hand drawn design and digitize it using a computer aided drawing program. This allows us to be precise about the details and the measurements. Next, the design is printed and lain out to be used as a blueprint. The glass pieces are selected by hand based on their color, texture, and quality and cut into the corresponding shapes. Lead caming is placed between the pieces to hold them together, and then soldered, and cemented in place.

Once the panel is assembled, it is cleaned using a gentle cleansing solution to remove dust and excess cement. Next, it is allowed to dry and set. Sometimes, if a panel is extremely large or heavy, or if a restoration is being performed, steel brace bars are added for reinforcement. Upon installation, a protective covering of low-e glass may be applied over the top. If this extra step is taken, we take great care to ensure that proper ventilation is added to allow heat to escape. This is the final step and its completion means you can enjoy your beautiful stained glass window.

Scottish Stained Glass for Dallas Homes

Because architectural styles vary so widely in style in the Dallas area, there are many different types of stained glass that can be used for the inclusion of Dallas homes. While clear glass and leaded glass windows are popular for contemporary style homes in neighborhoods like Arlington, Plano, and McKinney, in the older and more historic districts of West End and Old East Dallas, more traditional looks are desirable.

At Scottish Stained Glass, we will work with you to find the best style that brings out the finest features of your home and compliments your existing decor. Whether you need a stained glass sign for your business downtown on Main Street, or are looking to add stained glass to the bathroom or kitchen of your home in Irving, we can accomodate your needs. We’re here to provide our assistance in any way possible. We want you to have a stained glass window that you treasure and can enjoy for a lifetime.

Scottish Stained Glass Types & Styles for Dallas

Some of the general genres that have influenced and inspired our design process in the past include traditional and contemporary styles, Prairie Style, art deco, art nouveau, and fundamental Celtic forms. Whatever your personal style preference may be, Scottish Stained Glass in Dallas can reflect it in the window’s design.

The use of the words stained glass can sometimes be a bit misleading as 80% of our clients in Dallas do not use color in their stained glass designs. Most use cut glass clear beveled pieces and colorless textured glass to achieve a timeless elegance in the glass. The use of non-colored stained glass also ensures that if you decide at some time in the future to change out the decor in a room the stained glass will still fit in with whatever wall colors or other design features you decide to choose.

While the majority of our clients do not choose color we still love colored stained glass and have over 600 colors to choose from. Our designer will bring most of these out to show you during your in home consultation. For those clients who expect to move home within 5 years we would recommend no color be used in your stained glass. Real estate agents have told us that they prefer to sell homes where the front entryway has leaded and beveled glass, rather than colored stained glass, unless the home is in an older neighborhood of Dallas and had original colored stained glass.
