Beveled stained glass for extra light.
Have you ever considered beveled stained glass for any of the windows or doors in your home? We consider beveled glass to be one of our signature styles, a style we truly love designing and building for our clients, and they seem to agree about its loveliness.
Beveled stained glass refers to special thick glass that is cut differently from ordinary glass. Instead of making a ninety degree cut, with the edges perpendicular to the piece of glass, the edges of the glass are cut on an angle. And when those angles are joined, stunning patterns and textures are created. But that’s not the only reason we loved this type of glass.
The beveled edge handles the light differently than a regularly cut edge, and that’s where the fun starts. When sunlight passes through the bevels, it is refracted into prisms of light that cast specs of colored light around the room. If you have ever seen a piece of cut crystal hanging in a window, and seen the light dancing about the room, then you know exactly what we are talking about.
One of our clients’ favorite places to add beveled stained glass is in their homes’ entryways. It can be done with frosted glass that affords privacy but lets in more light. In fact, you might find you have even more light if you formerly had your entryway sidelights covered with curtains or even paper, to keep strangers from looking in.
Privacy and beauty and great style: that’s what you’ll get with beveled stained glass. But don’t take our word for it. We do agree that a picture is worth a thousand words, so instead of writing a thousand word article on beveled stained glass, why not just show you some photos?
