Masterful Restoration of Dalle Glass Artistry

Dalle Glass, or Dalle de Verre, is a unique stained glass technique that uses thick slabs of colored glass to create abstract, mosaic-like designs. Originating in 1930s France by Parisian artist Ernest Jean Gaudin, this technique gained popularity in the United States during the 1960s and 1970s, especially on the West Coast and in Southern states like Texas. Many Dalle Glass windows in the U.S. are now 50-60 years old and require restoration to prevent irreversible damage. We are proud to be among the few studios in the U.S. capable of expertly restoring these intricate works of art.

Comprehensive Dalle de Verre Restoration

Our Dalle de Verre restoration process begins with an onsite consultation to inspect and analyze the glass’s condition. We repair the panels section by section, temporarily inserting faux replicas to maintain the composition’s aesthetic. Each section is dismantled, and the glass slabs are cleaned to remove the epoxy mortar. Severely damaged pieces are conservatively replaced to preserve the original work. We then reassemble the panel using the original techniques, clean it, reinstall it, and repeat the process until all sections are restored.
