From Broken To Beautiful – How Scottish Stained Glass San Antonio Can Help Restore Church Stained Glass

For many churches, stained glass windows hold more than just aesthetic value. They’re a connection to the past that ties together pieces of an important story, illuminating the details of how the congregation transitioned from its humble beginnings to its place in modern society. They’re precious.

While stained glass windows are designed for durability, they’re far from unbreakable. Stained glass restoration provides San Antonio churches with the ability to restore broken and deteriorating stained glass windows and save them from destruction.

Why Is Stained Glass Restoration Important?

Damage to stained glass can be very stressful for the church. People often hold strong emotional attachments to stained glass windows. Either they have early memories of looking at it during service when they were young or they hold personal pride in having something so beautiful in their church.

Additionally, the windows can also be valuable due to their antique status. Windows that are made from fine materials or exhibit paintings from a notable artist are often worth a significant sum. If they are broken or start to deteriorate, pieces may fall out and shatter, decreasing their value.

At Scottish Stained Glass, we understand how these situations can put pressure on the church both emotionally and financially. That’s why we’re here to help. Our stained glass restoration services offer San Antonio churches, temples, and congregations with a way to restore broken and damaged stained glass back to a sound and stable condition.

Our Process for Restoring Broken Stained Glass

We treat every restoration as if we were crafting a beautiful work of art, investing both a tremendous amount of time and energy in every stage, from planning to completion. Our process is usually conducted in phases which include:

  • Phase One: An onsite inspection is conducted to assess the damage. Then, a plan is generated that outlines the details of the repairs.
  • Phase Two: The stained glass is removed from the church and brought to our studio. We date, document, and record all details of the design and the locations of the individual glass pieces. The window is set in a bath and soaked to prepare it for cleaning. Then, it is carefully taken apart.
  • Phase Three: Damaged pieces that cannot be salvaged are discarded and replaced. Hand painted designs are recreated and fired in the kiln. Then, the window is assembled back together and installed once again in the church walls.
