Deer Creek Church in Littleton, Colorado, partnered with Scottish Stained Glass to transform their worship space with a design that balanced tradition and modernity. The church’s worship pastor, Aaron Ellis, explained that their east-facing building struggled with intense morning sunlight, creating both aesthetic and functional challenges. Beyond light control, the church sought a way to reflect five key Presbyterian concepts—word, water, bread, wine, and prayer—without using figurative religious imagery. Our designer, Maria, faced the unique task of capturing these five “means of grace” in a way that would resonate with the congregation’s values while elevating the sanctuary’s atmosphere.
After multiple design iterations, Maria developed a concept that achieved the perfect harmony between Gothic structure and contemporary abstraction. She painted soft, cloud-like forms that symbolize the connection between heaven and earth, subtly weaving the five sacred words into the composition. This innovative design not only met the church’s theological requirements but also provided a visual narrative of faith and reflection.
